Khukh Serkh Mountain Range
We are presenting you a brief description of the Khukh Serkh Mountain Range, one of the nature reservations in Mongolia.
It was included in the nature reservations in 1977 to protect the natural beauty, argali sheep and ibex resources, and to ensure sustainable growth. Khukh Serkh Mountain Range covers an area of 75,749 hectares.
Khukh Serkh Mountain Range is situated between Khovd and Bayan-Ulgii province, 50 km to the southeast of Gurvan Tsast Mountain. The highest peak is Takhilt Mountain with 4019m height.
Near the Khukh Serkh mountain range, Deluun mountain range, Takhilt mountain range, Nutsgen brown mountain, Burged mountain, Ar Teregt and Uvur Teregt which are high rocky mountains with glacial ridges, ravines, deep gorges and valleys are located.
A lot of rivers and creeks that feed the Buyant River take source from Khukh Serkh Mountain and there is a locally known spring called Khara Jarykh Tas. This mountain range is home to argali sheep, ibex, leopard, snow leopard, bearded vulture and snowcock.
